Arthur Kipps is a humble draper’s apprentice reunited with his childhood friend Ann, only for his sudden fortune to sweep him into high society, where he becomes engaged to the elegant Helen Walsingham. But wealth brings pressure, pretence and unhappiness, and Kipps soon realises that money cannot buy love. After losing his fortune, he discovers that what truly matters is staying true to himself – and to Ann.

The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress.
